Victoria House sees the extensive adaptive re-use of AE Clare’s heritage listed former infectious disease’s hospital into a
hospitality, commercial, residential and community hub for the Montario Quarter in Shenton Park. A 5-star Greenstar
project which creates 81 predominantly dual and triple aspect homes across three new wings is arranged around
communal and productive gardens. The layout of these three new wings honours the crossed scissor plan of the original
hospital. A detailed contextual study of the existing structures onsite led to a unique approach to built form and it’s
material palette. Three varying tones of brickwork grading from dark to light speak to the colours of the tiled roof, brickwork
and the bore water stains of the Hospital. Careful consideration of curtilage around Heritage structures allows for sufficient
breathing room and opportunities for mature tree retention and ample deep soil provision.
